How-To: DIY Makeup Remover

by Adri on December 22, 2011

I just watched a great video from online makeup tutorial guru Michelle Phan. She makes her own makeup remover using olive oil and aloe water, so easy to put together and great results!

My roommate Stephanie has used a home made face wash with olive oil and she swears by it. I’ve always been afraid to try something like that because I thought it would be too much of a mess, but Michelle’s easy to make and use remover might just be my gateway to trying soothing homemade facial products.

Stephanie’s recipe:

  • 1/3 Castor Oil
  • 2/3 Olive Oil
  • Splash of Tea Tree Oil

She just keeps a small kitchen oil bottle with pour spout on her counter and uses it every night before bed. Her concoction was inspired by Kim of Walk with Me and is based off of the Oil-Cleansing Method from Simple Mom.

Do any of you use homemade cleansers or moisturizers? Care to share your tips?

Wow! I really want to go out and buy some aloe vera water now, though I’m nervous because of the oil factor. This is pretty cool.

I’ve done something similar using 1/4 c olive oil, ten drops tea tree oil and ten drops oil of rosemary. I just store it in a pump bottle in the shower and make a new batch when I run out. :D

I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your blog.
It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit

I was curious if you ever thought of changing the structure of your site?

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe
you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it
better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
