So, you want to remove your current antivirus software. Maybe you need to remove it because you’re changing to a different security software plan. I’ve learned that a lot of people do not know that you cannot have more than one antivirus software running on a single machine. If you do, it can lead to a lot of complications and performance will greatly suffer.
Before installing any new or different antivirus that you have, you must first remove the current antivirus installed.
- The easiest way to accomplish that is to use the Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features in your Windows Control Panel. Once in that feature, find the software you want to uninstall and click “uninstall”.
- If you are trying to remove a Norton (Symantic) product, be sure to uninstall the “antivirus” or “security suite” program first and if the option to “remove all” is given choose that. If you try to remove any other Norton feature it could complicate the removal process. If you can’t remove a Norton product you can try seeing if a Norton Removal Tool can help you.
- Once your old antivirus software is successfully removed, be sure to restart your computer, then you can install your new antivirus software.
